Washington and Moscow control what are currently the world’s two largest nuclear arsenals, but the U.S. has sounded the alarm over Beijing’s rapid arms buildup. The Pentagon estimated in last November’s China Military Power Report that Beijing will operate around 700 warheads by 2027 and “at least 1,000” by the end of the decade. The Chinese government, meanwhile, has all but dismissed arms control dialogue while its nuclear stockpile—estimated at between 200 and 300—remains dwarfed by those of the U....

President Donald Trump’s administration is continuing its hawkish China strategy even as the commander in chief prepares to leave the White House to make way for President-Elect Joe Biden. On Monday, the president signed an executive order directing federal agencies to assess any risks from Chinese-made drone fleets in government use, and to prioritize their removal if any risks are found. The order also includes drones made by other American adversaries, including Russia, Iran and North Korea, Reuters reported....

The measures target those “believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, policies or actions aimed at repressing ethnic and religious minority groups, including those who seek safety abroad, and U.S. citizens, who speak out on behalf of these vulnerable populations,” according to a department statement. The move comes as accusations against China for human rights abuses continue to mount. Late last year, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s genocide prevention center released a report detailing human rights abuses against the Uyghur Muslim minority group in China’s Xinjiang province using first-hand testimony and other information provided by dissidents....

While the Elon Musk-led company has ramped up production in the country, including a major Model 3 and Model Y factory in Shanghai, Chinese officials now fear cameras or sensors on the cars could be a security risk, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. As a result of the concerns, use of Tesla cars will be restricted at Chinese government agencies, military facilities and housing complexes and some state-owned businesses, the newspaper said....

The PGA Tour, organiser of golf’s flagship events, says it wants to more than double the number of events on the Chinese mainland as Beijing basks in the glow of a bronze medal in Rio for Feng Shanshan - also a multi-millionaire winner on the international Ladies PGA Tour....

The state-run Tass Russian News Agency cited the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation as saying Wednesday it was “expecting a response from China on our offer to purchase modern weapons and military equipment manufactured in Russia, including additional batches of Su-35 fighter jets.” The aircraft is an upgraded version of the Sukhoi Su-27 and Beijing already bought two dozen for some $2.5 billion. Alan Wilson, 28, was arrested about an hour after police said he attacked the child with a knife in a Las Vegas home, and he is now facing charges including battery and attempted murder with a deadly weapon, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Wilson was with other family members in a home at the time of the incident, the Review-Journal reported. The 911 call police responded to included a man telling the operator that his stepson had stabbed his granddaughter, although it is not clear if Wilson and the child are directly related....
