Alan Wilson, 28, was arrested about an hour after police said he attacked the child with a knife in a Las Vegas home, and he is now facing charges including battery and attempted murder with a deadly weapon, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Wilson was with other family members in a home at the time of the incident, the Review-Journal reported. The 911 call police responded to included a man telling the operator that his stepson had stabbed his granddaughter, although it is not clear if Wilson and the child are directly related.

The child was reportedly stabbed seven times in the back, once in an armpit and on her hand and twice on one arm. She suffered internal injuries to an artery, a kidney and her spleen and underwent three surgeries, and is still hospitalized, the Review-Journal added.

Last week’s stabbing was another in a string of recent notable crime stories reported out of the Las Vegas area in recent months, including a Las Vegas police officer facing charges for allegedly robbing three casinos of over $160,000, and a young woman who allegedly tried to suffocate her own child within hours of giving birth in a bathroom.

“I need to get the demons out of her. I need to save her,” Wilson allegedly said to the other people in the home who were trying to disarm him while he was allegedly stabbing the child, according to the Review-Journal. He was eventually disarmed and fled the home around the time that 911 was called. Wilson was located and arrested within an hour of the incident after police said they tracked his cell phone.

He is being held on $250,000 bail and has a hearing set for later this month, jail records show.

In other Las Vegas cases that have received national attention recently, a police K9 dog named Nuggetz alerted officers during a traffic stop late last month, which led to the arrest of two men for approximately 230 pounds, or about $10 million worth, of cocaine being seized from a truck that was carrying tomatoes as a cover, Newsweek previously reported. In January, two men from California were arrested in Las Vegas and charged with over a dozen crimes for allegedly committing a string of robberies and at least two shootings in the city over the last few days of 2021.
